Free Advice on Accessing Pensions

Date published: 26th August 2016

For those over the age of 55, new legislation introduced in 2015 allows early access to pension pots under certain circumstances.  Our Pensionwise project offers free, independent, and impartial advice on what you can do with your pension pot, how to shop around and what to look out for with taxes and fees.

Pensionwise Guidance Specialist, Brian McArthur, commented “With the new legislation there are certainly greater freedoms around accessing pension pots.  However, it can be a complex area and accessing pension pots early should only be done when you are in full possession of the facts.  That’s where I can help”.

This quarter saw 70 appointments carried out across the region helping to ensure those looking for advice on accessing their pensions are fully informed. Brian added, “Pensionwise is available for anyone who has a defined contribution pension, not a final salary scheme.  Those accessing our service are always grateful they have done so and can make informed decisions on their future based on fact.  Appointments are available within a week in most circumstances and can be a valuable tool in deciding next steps regarding retirement”.
